How CCTV gave away two alleged robbers of RCCG church, Sagamu-Ogun police

Ogun State police command has narrated how Close Circuit Television (CCTV) gave away the duo of 28-yrs-old Fidelis Francis resident of Udem, Cross River State and 40-yrs-old Lukman Jimoh, resident of Akure, Ondo State who came robbing a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) GRA, Sagamu on Monday, June 7.

Açcording to statement from the Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi on Wednesday, the DPO of Sagamu Divisional headquarters on this fateful day, was said to have received distress call at about 2 am, that a branch of RCCG located at GRA, Sagamu was under attack by suspected robbers. 

The statement explained that upon the distress call, the DPO Sagamu division, CSP Okiki Agunbiade, mobilized his men and the local vigilante to the scene, but the robbers had escaped through the fence before the arrival of the policemen.

The police disclosed further that while combing the surrounding bush, they sighted a Lexus Saloon car  with registration number KJA 469 EP, parked at a get away position not too far away from the church. 

The operatives were said to have suspected that the vehicle might have been parked by the fleeing robbers and therefore mounted surveillance in the area, waiting for who will be coming for the vehicle at that odd hour. 

The statement stated that "after waiting patiently for about five hours, the two suspected robbers came, and while trying to move the vehicle away, the policemen swooped on them and got them apprehended. 

On searching the vehicle, two iron bars similar to the ones recovered at the scene of crime were said to have been found in the car. This was said to have further increased the police suspicion and the two men were taken to the church, where the CCTV footage was played and the two suspects were seen in the footage as they were breaking into the church. 

The police revealed further that having seen the video evidence, the two suspects were left with no alternative than to confessed to the crime.

 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Cp Edward Awolowo Ajogun, who commended the display of professionalism by his men has directed an in- depth investigation into the case with a view to charge the suspects to court as soon as possible.
