Alleged armed robber disguises as Vigillante in Ogun, fingers police inspector as supplier of guns

Ogun state police command said that it has arrested one Owonikoko Akeem, aged 33 along Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway during a sting operation led by ACP Omosanyi Adeniyi, the Area Commander for Ijebu Ode.

Akeem, a suspected armed robber allegedly. terrorising residents of Obalende area, Ijebu Ode was said to have been sighted at midnight, about 12:30am on this fateful day in a Toyota Camry around Ososa Ijebu driving towards Ijebu Ode.

On sighting the police team, according to statement from the Spokesperson of the state police command, SP Omolola Odutola, Akeem and his gangs were said to have diverted their car away from the expressway, fleeing into the bush and abandoning their car having realised that the police were giving them a hot chase.

Akeem who allegedly dressed to disguise as a member of Vigillante Group of Nigeria was thereafter arrested during the search of the area and he was said to have allegedly confessed to the crime alleging that one Police inspector, Ola had been the one supplying them with guns 

Searching the bags abadoned in the vehicle, the police said items recovered from the bags are 32 expended cartridges, 78 live cartridges and a locally fabricated short gun. Others allegedly found in his residence when searched were Magnum Pump action riffle, double barrel short gun, one locally fabricated double barrel pistol, Stunt Pistol Chocker, unregistered silver colour Toyota Camry, Green colour Toyota Sienna Bus KNN 58 TD OGUN, black beret  with insigma of Aiye Confraternity, phones, hard drugs among other.

Similarly, one Sunday. Dosunmu aged 53 who was recently released from the prison was said to have been arrested again on Saturday around Leme, Abeokuta while attempting to  steal a car with his specially made fabricated key.

The Dvisional Police Officer of Kemta, Abeokuta, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle was said to have arrested this same Dosunmu on 17th September 2022 at Olorunsogo area of Abeokuta while trying to steal a car from a park along with his syndicate and was thereafter sent to jail.

Sunday in his habitual criminal act was said to have been caught again by youths of that area, while using fabricated master keys to unlock some cars within that area.


People who saw him were said to have raised the alarm, though he was said to have taken to his heels but the youth of the area caught up with him and hand him over to the police.

Two fabricated master keys were said  to have been found in his possession, these are said to be the instruments the suspect usually use to unlock the cars and then drives them away.

While lauding his officers for the crackdown on the undesirable elements in the society, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Abiodun Alamutu disclosed that the suspects would soon be in court to answer for their misdemeanours.
