Gunmen disguise as worshippers, kill Ogun Celestial Shepherd inside church


Three gunmen said to have been dressed in white garment on Sunday stormed a parish of a Celestial Church of Christ at Idiroko and shot dead Yomi Adetula, a director with So Safe Corps and Shepherd-in-charge of the church.

Adetula was reportedly shot dead right inside the parish of the Celestial Church he established few years back at around 10am

The Commander of So Safe Corps, a security agency established by the state government, Soji Ganzalo confirmed the tragic incident to our Correspondent on Sunday.

Ganzalo said "I have heard the report about one of my directors who some people killed this morning right inside his church at Idi-Aba Idiroko Idiroko. 

"The assailants were said to have disguised as worshippers, it's been a very shocking news. 

"I have however contacted the Commissioner of Police and the Director of DSS for further intervention and investigation". 

The Spokesperson of the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola also confirmed the killing in a statement sent to journalists.

Odutola said that at about 10:30am on Sunday, the police got the report that someone had been killed at the Celestial Church of Christ, Eagle parish, Idiroko.

She said that the operatives raced to the crime scene and met a 54-year-old one Yomi Adetula lying face down with his white garment soaked in pool of blood.

Odutola explained that "On careful observation the victim's body was riddled with bullets and his head was not spared, to ensure the victim was really dead, it was mangled with axe

"On police inquiry, information further revealed that three men came into the church, brought out long double barrel gun, aimed at their target and fired a shot that brought the deceased down. 

"With the efforts of the police, the corpse was removed to General Hospital Morgue, Ilaro for autopsy.

"Efforts are ongoing by the police to arrest the fleeing suspects who escaped out of the church towards border area".


Odutola said that normalcy has been restored while possible clue will be revealed in the coming days as investigations has been launched into the very sad occurrence.
