On behalf of the Southern Youth Association of Nigeria (S.Y.A.N.), the umbrella body representing indigenous youths across Southern Nigeria, I extend warm greetings to all Nigerians as we commemorate Democracy Day 2026.
This significant occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of our founding fathers, democratic heroes, and countless patriots whose courage and dedication laid the foundation for the democratic system we enjoy today.
As a nation, we must remain committed to preserving and strengthening these democratic values for the benefit of present and future generations.
The Southern Youth Association of Nigeria also wishes to express its heartfelt sympathy to the families of all victims currently in the hands of kidnappers across the country.
We share in your pain and anxiety during this difficult period and fervently pray for the safe and immediate release of all those held captive.
We equally call on security agencies to intensify efforts towards securing their freedom and ensuring that perpetrators of these criminal acts are brought to justice.
Furthermore, we acknowledge and commend Nigerians who have continued to peacefully advocate for good governance, economic reforms, accountability, and the overall betterment of our nation through lawful protests and civic engagement.
The right to peaceful assembly and expression remains a fundamental pillar of every democratic society.
While encouraging citizens to continue demanding positive change, we urge protest leaders and participants to remain strategic, coordinated, and vigilant in their actions to prevent genuine movements from being hijacked by criminal elements, political opportunists, or individuals whose intentions are contrary to the collective interest of the Nigerian people. Peaceful advocacy remains most effective when conducted responsibly and within the confines of the law.
As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us all renew our commitment to national unity, peace, justice, and sustainable development.
Together, we can build a Nigeria that fulfills the aspirations and dreams of its people.
May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Happy Democracy Day to all Nigerians.
Signed:
Hon. Pastor Okikiola Fayomi
National President
Southern Youth Association of Nigeria (S.Y.A.N.)
