Ayoola urges FG to investigate police, EFCC clash at Yaya Bello’s home

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress from Odogbolu Local Government and founder of Omooba Obaruwa Foundation, Omooba Adekunle Ayoola has condemned the reported clash between the police and the officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at the Abuja residence of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello on Thursday.

Omooba Adekunle Ayoola has therefore urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to launch an enquiry into the incident with a view to punishing the officers of the law found guilty of obstructing justice and constituting clog in the wheel of our national development and growing democracy.

The Poland based international trade expert disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Saturday.

It would be recalled that, the embattled former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello is currently having a running battle with the anti-graft agency over embezzlement of public funds to the tune of over N80,246bn 

The EFCC, which has now declared Bello wanted had attempted to arrest him at his Abuja residence on Wednesday but his police escorts, together with his successor in office, Gov Ododo had allegedly whisked him away and prevented the EFCC from arresting the former governor.

The EFCC had reportedly laid siege to arrest Bello at his Abuja home but his successor, Gov Usman Ododo reportedly stormed the house with his hordes of security and later left with Bello in his convoy.

Ayoola has however frowned at the alleged clash between the police and the EFCC operatives over a matter that both are supposed to be on the same page raising questions about the unity among security agencies in defending the interest of the country above individual interest.

The philanthropist said "President Tinubu, through the Minister of Justice, should launch an investigation into the dramatic events at Yahaya Bello's Abuja residence. 

"The clash between a police officer and EFCC officials raises concerns about the rule of law and the unity of security agencies in serving the state's interests over individual agendas. 

"It's essential for all federal service personnel to adhere to the constitution, as seen in other countries where even high-profile figures face legal scrutiny. The need for accountability and transparency is paramount in maintaining the integrity of the government.

"Nobody, no matter how highly placed should be seen as being bigger than the state".
