The federal and Ogun state governments in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricutural Development (IFAD)-Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) have trained agricultural Extension Agents (EAs) and Laision Officers (LOs) on documentation of success stories.
The one-day training with the theme: “Criterion for Identification of Success Story and Basic Photographic Skills,” was held in Abeokuta.
The Acting State Programme Coordinator, Mrs Temitope Ajisafe, while declaring the training open, noted that identification of farmers success story was very key in the FGN/IFAD-VCDP project.
Ajisafe said keeping proper account of the success stories would help in projecting the various interventions of the government.
“This training is very crucial, to the LOs and EAs because they are the ones closer to the farmers.
“They are also the ones that interact with the farmers in their various local government, that is why they need to have the knowledge and skills on how to identify and document the success stories of the farmers,” she said
She, however, urged the participants to take advantage of the training which would help them in showcasing their work and the activities of the beneficiaries.
Also speaking, Mrs Vera Onyilo, the Knowledge Management and Communication Advisor, VCDP Abuja, defined success story as a human interest story that highlight a success or achievement of a beneficiary.
Onyilo added that it focuses on the impact of an intervention, innovation or techniques and it contributes to the change in the individual or group’s lives.
“This training is a refresher course for LOs and EAs basically on building capacity on documentation and how to communicate project result, because they are the ones closest to the farmers in the rural areas.
“So, they will be equiped with skills to identify, track and document the project success stories for the VCDP,” she said.
She urged the participants to write simple, clear stories and avoid jargons.
Also Mr Femi Kuye, a lead consultant, in his presentation on basic principles of photography and handling of cameras, said capturing photograph of farmers activities would help in giving a long lasting memories of beneficiaries farming activities.
Kuti added that it would also enhance promotion of agricultural programmes.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mrs Oluwafunke Adeyanju and Mr Adegbesan Adeboye, commended the VCDP for the kind gesture in building their capacity.
They said the training would enable them to project more agricultural interventions among farmers at the grassroots.
