Ogun State Police Command has narrated how an alleged notorious cultist, simply identified as Esube arrested along Papa road in Ewekoro local government area of the state with unregistered Bajaj motorcycle went berserk, biting the police driver on the right finger and causing the patrol vehicle taking him to Ilaro Divisional office of the police to burst its tyre and then lose control.
SP Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The pin down team of one Inspector Sunday Adeyemo, patrolling Okeganmu in Ilaro Division on the 6th of August was said to have arrested Esube and Osunmuyiwa Solomon after Esube pointed him out that both of them had been involved in series of killings in the area.
Esube was particularly said to have been arrested along Papa road with an unregistered Bajaj Motorcycle in company of one Omowunmi Fiyakola, a passenger.
Esube was however said to have refused to stopped, he was subsequently pursued and arrested with one locally fabricated Pistol loaded with cartridges kept in his cross bag.
He was said to have been violent with the driver of the police vehicle, struggling with the steering in a bid to escape. Esube was alleged to have equally bite the police driver on his right finger which led to a tyre burst causing the patrol vehicle to lose control.
After the accident, Esube was alleged to have attempted to take to his heels, but was shot on his right tigh to incapacitate him and get him arrested after which he was taken to the police station.
He was said to have allegedly made confessional statements as being a member of a notorious confraternity, and that the unregistered Bajaj motorcycle was stolen by him.The police have said that the notorious cultist will soon be charged to court for murder, stealing, and possession of fire arms.
Similarly, as the clampdown on cultists across Ogun State continues, the police have equally on Wednesday, arrested five alleged notorious cultists troubling residents of Aboro in Agbado area, Ifo Local Government.
Those arrested are Adetayo Ismaila aged 42, Kunle Oluwole, 37yrs, Ibrahim Ademosun, 31yrs, Meshach Olaide, 31yrs and 35yr- old Dare Kehinde.The five suspected cultists tagged "merciless and dangerous" were said to have allegedly confessed to various crimes including murder.
They were said to have been arrested based on a distress call received from a concerned citizen who narrated how the community has remained threatened by the endless panic constituted by these hooligans and alleged cultists
The Agbado Divisional Police Officer, CSP Awoniyi Adekunle Isaac together with other security agencies were said to have embarked on an aggressive raid following the credible source, patrolling around and within Matogun community which led to the arrest of the cultists in their hideout.
The alleged dare-devil cultists were alleged to have attacked the Divisional Police Officer and his team who went to rescue one Ogwu Uzoma now receiving medical attention in Matogun. Uzoma was said to have been brutally injured by the suspected cultists as they had earlier reportedly boasted that they would kill him, if he did not clear out his account for them.
Dangerous items recovered from them were said to be broken bottles, cutlasses, knife and significant amount of cannabis pointing to the fact that they were under the influence of hard drugs. Investigation was said to have revealed that they are members of Aiye Confraternity and had been instrumental to series of early morning attacks, waylaying of people who close from night duty on their way back home.
The Commissioner for Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu was said to have lauded his officers for being swift and prompt to protect the citizens and has therefore ordered that the alleged cultists should be immediately charged to court to face the music.
