Remo group set to empower over 150 youths in agricbusiness, entrepreneurial training.

The youths have once again been urged to embrace the abundant opportunities in  vocational training and stop wasting away while waiting for the white collar jobs that are no longer available.

The negative attitude of many youths to embracing vocational training is said to be responsible for the widening poverty gap and contributing greatly to the growing problem of unemployment and other attendant consequences.

It is against this backdrop that Remo Growth and Development Foundation as put together by the Akarigbo of Remo land, Oba (Dr) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi is already making moves to empower over 150 youths across the three local governments of Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North with relevant vocational training and fund for the establishment of such vocations after the training.

Speaking at the interactive session organised for the benefitting youths at the RGDF secretariat along Ilisan-Iperu road, Iperu Remo on Saturday, the Head of the Youth and Sports Directorate of the socio-economic group, Omooba Biola Ogundeko disclosed that the initiative was to help develop the youth and put them on the path of economic prosperity and financial freedom.

Omooba Ogundeko disclosed that it was the obvious truth that any society enjoying peace and tranquility must have found a way of helping their youths to channel their their resourcefulness and energy to productive ventures saying that this was one of the reasons why the group came out with the idea.

He said "when this idea of employment and vocational training for the youth was conceived by the RGDF, the notice was put out online for the youths to apply and for this first phase, about 155 registered and we said let's call these youth together and interact with them.

"Specifically, they will be trained on entrepreneur, agricbusiness as well as on alternative energy like inverter and solar. Successful participants at the training will be given no-interest loan from N500,000 to N2m to fund their businesses. So, it is an opportunity the youths should grab with their both hands for a more fulfilling future".

Speaking at the programme, the Chairperson of the Youth Empowerment Scheme, Mrs Adejoke Odumosu said that the essence of the programme is to help put the youths on the right path of skills acquisition and attaining economic prosperity such that the youths are not only useful to themselves but also to their immediate community and the nation as a whole.

She said the interactive session would enable the organiser of the empowerment training to also know the area of interest of the participating youths so that it won't be a case of working at cross purpose or forcing down the throats of the youth what never interested them.

In his earlier address, Special Adviser to Gov Dapo Abiodun on Vocational and Technical Education, Prof Joseph Odemuyiwa also encouraged the participating youths to take seriously the issues of vocational training saying that it is one surest way not to only fight hunger, poverty and unemployment but to also develop the nation.

He said "one of the fundamental reasons for getting educated is to be relevant but if you say you are educated and the education is not putting food on your table, you can't take care of yourself lest your family, how relevant are you then? This is why learning a certificated trade, embracing vocational training is one major way to conquer the challenge of joblessness in the country and Ogun State is doing a lot in this regard to encourage our youths to tow this sustainable path".
