Two die in Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash

Two persons lost their lives along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday when two trucks ran into each other at Lenuwa axis opposite Jaro Company.

Traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps indicated that both articulated vehicles were heading towards Lagos when the incident occurred at 10.25am.

The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said the trucks involved were a Hanvan lowberg with number plate WDE 79 XB and another loaded with granite with no visible number plate.

He said, “According to eyewitness account, both trucks were inbound Lagos when the accident occurred.

“While the Hanvan lowberg truck was trying to make a detour to the the right, the loaded granite truck from behind, due to break failure, lost control of the truck and rammed into it on the drivers side, causing fatality, as a result of the impact.

“The motorboy in the loaded granite truck, which caused the crash, however survived the crash, but the driver and one other person died.”

Akinbiyi said the corpses of the victims have been deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue while the two vehicles  have been handed over to Sagamu Police command.

While TRACE Corps commiserates with the families of the dead victims, it warned motorists to desist from speeding and ensure their vehicles are well maintained, so as to prevent avoidable crash.
