A 78-yr-old man, Moshood Habibu has been arrested by men of Ogun state police command for hacking his visually impaired 94-yr old brother, Salisu Surakatu to death over land dispute.

According to statement from the Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi on Saturday, Moshood Habibu was said to have been arrested on Wednesday, November 24 by police officers attached to Mowe Divisional headquarters.

It was stated that Moshood was arrested following a report lodged at Mowe divisional headquarters by the son of the deceased, Aminu Tajudeen that Salisu Surakatu, was his biological father, and that the suspect came to his father's house at Kara Ewumi village Mowe, where he matcheted him to death over disagreement on land matter.

The statement added that upon the report, the DPO, Mowe Division, CSP Saminu Akintunde, quickly mobilized his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.

On interrogation, Moshood claimed that the deceased sold a  plot from their family land but refused to give him his own share of the proceeds, and that he went there that fateful morning to demand for his own share which led to hot argument between them.

The police disclosed further that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect went to the deceased house armed with cutlass, and when he got there, the deceased who was visually impaired didn't know that he came with cutlass.

The police added that while the deceased was asking Moshood to leave his house, he allegedly descended heavily on him and matcheted him to death.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
