Ogun embarks on solar powered boreholes for rural communities

As part of its deliberate moves to ease problem of water supply among the rural dwellers, Ogun State giovernment has embarked on the construction of a solar powered borehole in Elefun Owu community, in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.

It will be recalled that the State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSAN) had before now provided a total of 63 solar powered boreholes in Ado-Odo/Ota, Yewa North, Ipokia and Odeda Local Government Areas.

Speaking while inspecting the project, the Director for Rural Water in the Ministry of Rural Development, Mr. Ayokunle Ogundimu, said the Prince Dapo Abiodun led government decided to construct the borehole to solve the challenge of water supply in the community.

Ogundimu, who noted that the project had reached 80 percent completion, assured the residents that the construction work would be of high standard and completed soon.

In his remarks, the Head of Elefun Owu village, Chief Tajudeen Abass, who expressed happiness about the project, stated that availability of potable water in the community would alleviate the hardship being faced by the people, and prevent water borne diseases.

“Our people used to get water from river around the community, but with this ongoing borehole project by the government, the problem of water supply during dry season in particular, will be a thing of the past’’, he said.

Speaking on behalf of other residents, Mr. Safaru Adeyinka lauded the government for the gesture, pledging their continued support to the present administration, saying ‘‘he who gives water gives life’’.
