The management of Dangote Group has expressed its grief and sadness over the death of Ruth Otabor who was injured by one of the company's trucks at Auchi, Edo State early this month.
This was contained in a statement signed by the management of Dangote Group and made available to journalists on Sunday.
Otabor is the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna.
The company said that it has already made arrangements to fly the deceased to India for medical care before she reportedly succumbed to the injury she sustained during the accident on Sunday.
The statement partly reads "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State.
"On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time.
"Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family.
"Arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth's brave fight to live, we lost her today.
"At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.
The family of Otabor had announced her death on Sunday through a statement by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, saying that the graduate of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi passed on to glory on Sunday, at about 6:30 a.m.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.
The family added that they are grieving and requested privacy to mourn Ruth.
“The family is presently grieving and will appreciate to be given a private moment to mourn the departed.
“The funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course,” the statement added.
Ruth had suffered a tragic accident just weeks earlier.
She underwent a leg amputation after being hit by a truck linked to Dangote Group near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Eyewitnesses said the heavy-duty truck crushed her leg before it was eventually stopped by a bystander.
The accident occurred only six days after Ruth graduated from Auchi Polytechnic. Her sudden death has left the family and fans in mourning.
