In commemoration of the Self-Care Month, Society for Family Health (SFH) in collaboration with the Ogun State Primary Health Care Board has organized awareness campaign on Self-Care in order to manage reproductive health of women.
Speaking at the event held at Lipede Market in Abeokuta, Dr. Nnamdi Ekwue, DISC State Program Advisor said that the campaign aimed to educate women about the importance of self-care in maintaining good sexual and reproductive health by providing family planning services, counseling, and information to market women, traders, and the general public.
He noted that self-care approach was designed to revolutionize family planning practices by equipping women with the knowledge and skills to administer contraceptive injections independently, adding that it would promote healthy behaviors, improve well-being and reduce maternal mortality and morbidity.
The Health Educator, Abeokuta South Local Health Authority, Mrs Olufunsho Awodun while enlightening the women, described self-care as the ability of individuals and communities to manage their health with or without the involvement of healthcare providers, urging them to embrace family planning for their well-being, adding that clients would make informed choices about family planning, rather than being coerced or forced
Speaking on behalf of the market women, Mrs Rukayat Bolarinwa appreciated the Society for Family Health and PHC Board for bringing the self-care campaign closer to them which has given them a broader knowledge of self-care practices to promote their reproductive health, promising to take advantage of the exercise for their benefits.
