TASUED holds 16th convocation, produces first set of PhD 

The Vice Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, Prof Wole Banjo said that the 16th convocation of the university sheduled for next week produced 27 First Class out of the 4,140 graduands that will be receiving the university's various first degrees awards

Prof Banjo said that the first set of the university's Doctorate Degrees holders, including an 85-year old retired Military Colonel, Pa Bolaji Onafowokan will also be graduating during the convocation.


The Vice-Chancellor said that a total of 401 will be receiving the various Postgraduates awards of the institution out of which 67 of them are PhD graduates, Masters Degrees are 279 while 55 will receive Postgraduate Diploma and and in Education among others

Prof Banjo disclosed this on Friday at a briefing held to herald the convocation of the university.

The Vice-Chancellor said that "What is making this 16th convocation so unique to us is the fact that, the first set of our PhD holders produced by the University, 67 of them will be part of this convocation.


"The PhD graduands includes an 85-year old retired Military Colonel, Bolaji Onafowokan who is a point of reference in perseverance and determination to achieve one's set out goal in life despite the circumstances"

The Vice-Chancellor also said that the visitor to the university, Gov Dapo Abiodun during the convocation will commission the N30m 800KVA CNG powered Independent Power Plant of the institution.


Prof Banjo said "We have been having the challenge of epileptic power supply for about seven years, the cost of diesel used in powering our generators has gone up, we are spending between N18m to N20 per month.

"It is against this backdrop that we started talking about alternative, we talked to some companies and here we are today with our independent power plant built for about N30m. It is more cost effective and we are set to begin to enjoy 24 hours electricity supply once it is commissioned by the governor next week".

Other projects to be commissioned by the governor includes an ultra-modern Science Laboratories Complex as well the self sponsored university healthcentre with the state of the art facilities.

Banjo said that the security around the school has improved greatly with the intervention of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu who has deployed special patrol team to ensure that the security of the university and host communities is monitored 24 hours.

He said that the university will equally during the convocation be conferring honourary doctorate degree awards on Dr Taiwo Afolabi, CEO of SIFAX Group, Prince Oluyemisi Shyllon, art enthusiast, Otunba Wasiu Jaiyeola, CEO, Wessy Creations as well as Engr Jubril Sanusi for their various outstanding contributions to the development of the country

The VC also stated that the Minister of Communication, Innovations and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani will be delivering the convocation lecture with the theme "From Classroom To Cloud: Leveraging Digital Literacy For National Development".
