AIU's clearance of Tobi Amusan: Stakeholders shower accolades on Olopade for playing significant roles
Stakeholders in the sports sector in Ogun State have commended the resourcefulness of Chief Bukola Olopade towards the lift of suspension of world hurdles champion, Tobi Amusan.
The Athletics Integrity Unit had on Thursday 17th August, 2023 lifted with immediate effect the provisional suspension of Tobi Amusan,
Amusan was provisionally suspended by the AIU in July for missing three whereabouts tests.
According to World Athletics’ anti-doping rules, any athlete who misses three drug tests in the space of 12 months will be banned for two years, subject to a reduction to a minimum of one year depending on degree of fault.
But on Thursday, a panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, discovered that Amusan did not violate any rule as claimed by the body in July.
Reacting, the Executive Secretary, 2023 National Sports Festival, Dr. Kweku Adetayo Tandoh described the efforts of chief Olopade on the matter as laudable
“My dear bro, I must congratulate you especially for this. I am privileged to be one of the few people who know all you did to get this case resolved. On behalf of Tobi and Nigeria, I say thank you Chief Bukola Olopade” Dr. Tandoh said
According to a foremost sports administrator and Psychologist, Prof. Seun Omotayo said “I join Dr. Tandoh and Toyin Ibitoye to appreciate Hon. Bukola Olopade for throwing his wait into the matter of Tobi Amusan. It was a matter of concern to me personally but while in Nigeria days back for the Inauguration of the 22nd NSF LOC Hon. Olopade assured me that the matter shall be resolved and that I should not worry. Hon. Olopade thanks for walking your talk. Please keep serving humanity and the good Lord shall keep rewarding you.”
The Chairman, Ogun State Football Association who is also a board member of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi said the feat achieved by Chief Olopade is a good one noting the LOC Chairman for National Sports Festival is known for such great success story.
The immediate Past Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), in Ogun State, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde said Chief Olopade is not only an asset to Ogun state, but also an undisputable one to Nigeria as a whole.
Responding, Chief Bukola Olopade who attributed the success story to the contributions of all the stakeholders in the sports industry said there is the need for stakeholders and people close to our sports men and women, to develop a system of assisting them on how to manage success and all the burden that comes with it.
Olopade said, it should be noted that Tobi Amusan is a very clean Athlete all Round.
