The management of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun (TASUED) has eulogised the pioneer Provost of the then Ogun State College of Education, Dr. Simeon Olumuyiwa Taiwo Jiboku, who passed away on Saturday, June 4th, 2023.
The commendation service which was held at the TETfund 2012 hall, Ijagun, was attended by family members and relatives of the deceased as well as teaching and non-teaching staff, friends, alumni of the erstwhile State College of Education, mentees, admirers and well-wishers all converged to bid the late Provost farewell.
In his remarks at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Wole Banjo recalled with nostalgia Dr. Jiboku's contributions to the movement of the then College from its temporary abode in Ijebu Ode to its permanent Campus in Ijagun.
Prof Banjo described him as an astute administrator, a visionary leader who committed his life and times to mentoring and grooming students for the future.
"We see the evidence of your modest simple life,a reminder of your various good deeds and modest achievements while on earth.
"We have seen your footprints on the sands of time, while your courageous activities in public, religious, and community services were all adequately reported by your colleagues, mentees , immediate and extended family members", he noted.
Prof. Banjo disclosed that TASUED can never forget the numerous contributions of Dr. Jiboku to the then Ogun State College of Education which has now become the 1st University of Education in Nigeria, 2nd in Africa, and 8th in the World.
While paying glowing tributes to the deceased, the former Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology in Ogun State and the erstwhile Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, who was a former student and lecturer in the then Ogun State College of Education, described the late don as a legend and one of the founding fathers of TASUED and Skiriu Kayode Adetona College of Education, Science, and Technology, Omu - Ajose, (SACOETEC).
Noting that under the leadership of Dr. Jiboku, the College won many laurels among which was the fourth-best College of Education in the Country and also the first among State-owned Colleges of Education.
Not left out in paying his last respect was Dr. Zaccheus Odumosu who took over from the late Dr. Jiboku, describing him as one of the best administrators and Educationist, who understand his onions.
Other speakers at the event were the National President of OSCE Réunion, Bamofin, Sunday Olurotimi Oduntan, the Director, of CEPPS, Prof. Dele Sogbesan and an ace broadcaster and ewi exponent, an Alumni of OSCE 84/87 set, Bunmi Ayelaagbe who rendered his genre of poetry to the delight of the audience.
Delivering the sermon of the commendation service, the Bishop of Ijebu Diocese, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Revd. Dr Peter Rotimi Oludipe who was also an Alumni of OSCE,enjoined all to emulate the life of selfless service displayed by late Dr Jiboku.
Also, his Personal Assistant then, who is now the Deputy Registrar and Secretary, the School of Postgraduate Studies, Mr. Sharafadeen Adebisi paid glowing tribute to Dr. Jiboku noting that the tutelage he received from the late Provost prepared him for the leadership position, describing the deceased as an uncommon and selfless in the discharge of his duties while alive.
Prayers were thereafter offered for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
Responding on behalf of the family, Dr. Akin Oladele Jiboku appreciated the Management for organizing the event and supporting the family following the demise of their Patriarch, Late Chief Dr. Simeon Olumuyiwa Taiwo Jiboku.
He said that it was a thing of joy seeing that their father impacted so many lives before his death.
He implored the University Management to immortalise their father's name .
The family thereafter announced a donation of books to the University Library.
The late Provost was committed to mother earth on his 90th birthday thus signaling the end of an era with pomp and pageantry.
