President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele from office with immediate effect.
According to statement from Willie Bassey, Director of Information, on behalf of the Secretary to Government of the federation, Sen George Akume, Emefiele's suspension was sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
He has therefore been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.
Emefiele, it would be recalled masterminded the nara redesign and cash swap policy which led to serious cash crunch and for about three months brought the country's economy to its knees .
