Ogun Labour Party chieftain, Obadina calls for Tinubu's support over fuel subsidy

President Tinubu.    Hon Obadina

A chieftain of the Labour Party and one of the prominent members of 'Obidient Movement' in Ogun State, Hon Dayo Elias Obadina has said that the issue of fuel subsidy removal should not be politicised given the havoc it has wrecked on the nation's economy.

Hon Dayo Obadina who was the Labour Party House of Assembly candidate for Ikenne constituency during the 2023 elections disclosed that, though "President Bola Tinubu had in the past opposed the removal of fuel subsidy under the PDP administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan but now that he is confronted with reality and ready to tackle this monster once and for all, Nigerians irrespective of party afliations should support him to succeed''.

Speaking to our Correspondent on Friday, Obadina said that he remains a prominent member of 'Obidient Movement' who still believes in the Labour Party's efforts being made before the presidential election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja to reclaim the presidential seat for Peter Obi, who they believed won the February 25 presidential elections.

He however said, that he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which produced President Tinubu should not be a strong reason to not want to wish him to succeed pending the time the presidential election petition tribunal will help to reclaim the mandate for his party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Obadina said that given the damage and trillions of naira debt the fuel subsidy regime is imposing on our ailing economy, Nigerians should brace up for the painful sacrifice and support the government of President Tinubu to deal decisively with this cantankerous issue once and for all.

He said that Tinubu however should have first highlighted how he intended to mitigate the consequences and sufferings the implementation of fuel subsidy removal would have on the people before dropping the news during his inaugural address.

Obadina said the President should therefore get to work and come up with policies that would make life easier as the people battle with dire economic consequences of the fuel subsidy removal.

He added that this is not time to play any dirty politics with such serious national issue that had been a source of worry to every patriotic Nigerian for over 10 years.

Obadina while speaking on governance in Ogun State revealed that, his party had gone into alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship elections and they are so sure that Hon Ladipupo Adebutu, the PDP governorship candidate for the state will have his stolen mandate returned by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting at Abeokuta.

He said that it was glaring that the APC did not win the governorship election in Ogun State and so the PDP would soon have its mandate back urging the party members not to despair but wait on the wheel of justice which may grinds slowly but surely and fine.
