Again, Showunmi reports Gov Abiodun to IGP Egbetokun over attack during tribunal sitting

Otunba Segun Showunmi

Otunba Segun Showunmi, a PDP governorship aspirant during 2023 elections has again on Wednesday called on the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to call Gov Dapo Abiodun to order alleging him of being the sponsor of the hoodlums who attacked him recently during the sitting of Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal at Isabo, Abeokuta.

This is coming barely a week after Otunba Showunmi had written Nuhu Ribadu, the newly appointed National Security Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the same issue demanding for urgent probing of the alleged  attacks against him and other members of the opposition party in the state.

In a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday evening, Showunmi explained how those he alleged to be miscreants and agents of Gov Abiodun within the precinct of the state high court in Isabo, Abeokuta and allegedly in full view of the police attacked him for no just cause other than being a member of the opposition party.

The PDP leader said he was forced to call out Gov Abiodun over this babaric dispositions because the tragedy of Boko Haram which is costing the federal government fortunes to deal with was an offshoot of state actors recruiting hoodlums to silence opposition saying that this is the more reason why this weighty allegations against the governor should be investigated and not swept under the carpet.

He revealed that if not that the governor does not care that the state is set on fire, as the Chief Security Officer, he should have looked into the unwarranted attack against him which could have cost him his life save for some divine intervention.

Showunmi said he was even more baffled that the police on ground that day only stood by and allegedly just watching while the hoodlums had a field day.

The PDP chieftain said "IGP Sir, opposition elements in a democracy cannot and must not be brutalized by agents of Dapo Abiodun, no one has a monopoly of madness and as such I wish you to be the tiger and lion you promise.

"I plead with you to impress it on Gov Dapo Abiodun and his ilks that our very fragile democracy will not yield to criminal manipulations of this nature, we must collectively do everything to ensure that this attitude is discouraged.
