The Akarigbo of Remo land, Oba Adewale Ajayi has once again urged old students to channel their resources towards supporting the government to develop the education sector
Oba Adewale Ajayi said old students should always prioritise going back to their alma mater to see how they could pull their resources together to offer series of interventions that could make learning more conducive for the young ones.
The Paramount ruler of Remo land stated this while speaking during the commissioning of a renovated Chemistry Laboratory as well as turning of sod of a block of six classrooms being constructed by 77/82 set of Remo Secondary School, Sagamu. The ex-students are undertaking the projects to mark 40 years of passing out of the famous school in 1982.
Oba Adewale who is also an alumus of the school hailed the old students for their selflessness and love for their alma mater saying that "this is no doubt commendable. It's good to give back to the society and I really urge old students across the country to borrow a leaf from this laudable initiative".
The President of the set, Mr Wale Fayemi said that his mates decided to renovate the Chemistry Laboratory, restocked it with all kinds of science apparatus and also begin building of one block of six classrooms to mark forty years anniversary of leaving secondary school in 1982.
Fayemi said "forty years after leaving this great school, we felt that whatever successes we have all achieved in life has its foundation here and we decided to see what we can also do to improve the fortune of the school. It is so obvious that government can't do it alone, hence as individuals and organisations, we should be ready to form a partnership with the government to make things better".
Mr Abiodun Owoseni, Chairman Planning Committee of the 40th anniversary said that the projects executed by his set were products of power of unity and togetherness adding that the education sector in the country would be better for it if ex-students would care to take it as a point of duty to support their alma mater no matter how small.
Responding, the Principal of the Senior Section of the school, Mrs Victoria Olubunmi Saibu who is also an old student lauded her seniors for their thoughtfulness saying that their intervention would significantly improve learning in the school.
Saibu urged old students across the country to support the government in filling some yawning gaps in the education sector
Highlight of the two days anniversary included career talks for the students, free medical care as well as presentation of food stuff and toiletries to the School for Children with Special Needs, Sagamu.
Other dignitaries at the event were Bola Owolabi Oladehinde, National Vice President, Remo Secondary School Old Students Association, Home Secretary, National Executive Committee, Alhaji Saliu Isola Aina among others
