God has not given me opportunity to serve as VP for eight years and then go back home to sleep-Osinbajo

The Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo during his visit to the Akarigbo of Remo land, Oba Adewale Babatunde Ajayi, on Tuesday, disclosed that God has not given him the privilege to serve the country for seven years and then after his eight years in office go back home to sleep.

Prof Osinbajo declared that serving as the Vice President of the country in the last seven years had provided him with sufficient experience to know where the shoes pain Nigerians and how to tackle other challenges confronting the country.

The Vice President disclosed that he remains only the presidential aspirant that would not for six or two months wait to know where to begin work but hit the ground running as soon as he resumed office as the president of the country.

Prof Osinbajo who arrived the palace at about 12:52 was received by the other traditional rulers in Remo land led by the Paramount ruler and Akarigbo, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the governor of the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Secretary to the state government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi as well as hundreds of APC members.

The Vice President said he wasn't at the Akarigbo palace to campaign but to officially intimate his kith and kin in Remo land of his desire to succeed President Muahmmadu Buhari come May 29, 2023.

Osinbajo said he was sure by the grace of God that he possesses the capability to lead the country to higher ground detailing how he had served diligently as a university lecturer, as an aide to Prince Bola Ajibola when he served as Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation as well as when the popular jurist was appointed as Judge to The International Court at The Hague.

He also explained of how many reforms he had carried out during his eight years tenure as the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Lagos State had become what gingered sweeping reforms in the judiciary across the country saying that he had equally gained so much advantage as a VP that he could leverage on to take the country out of the woods.

The Vice President equally urged the traditional rulers not be confused saying that they have just only one son that has offered to become the President of the country in 2023.

The 65-year old Ikenne Remo born legal luminary said "I am here not to campaign but to inform my good people, my kith and kin in Remo land that I am contesting for the presidency come 2023. And let nobody deceive or confuse you, you have only one son that is offering to become the President of the country come 2023.

"And let nobody tell us story now, I have always been very loyal and offering my best in any assignment given to me... And without sounding immodest, of all the Presidential aspirants, I remain the only one that can hit the ground running given the experience I have gotten as the Vice President of the country in the last seven years. This is an opportunity that we must approach with all diligence in the state and we trust God that we shall get there".

Osinbajo lauded Gov Abiodun for his various giant strides and for being a true brother indeed praying that the good Lord will continue to strengthen him to further take the state to greater heights.

Speaking at the event, Akarigbo of Remo land, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi said that the endorsement of Prof Osinbajo as the next president of the country goes beyond being son of the soil saying that "what we are talking here is competency, integrity, even when the VP acted as the President in the time past, things went so smoothly, so, we have that assurance that you have all it takes to help with the leadership of this country and we pray that God in His Mercy will see you through".

In his remarks at the programme, the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun described Prof Osinbajo as a man whose antecedent speaks volumes of his capacity and capability to lead the country.

Gov Abiodun disclosed that "if the presidency is by award,  your pedigree is more than enough. We hereby pray that God will answer all our prayer".

The Alakenne of Ikenne, Oba Onakade thereafter led prayers for the success of the aspiration of the Vice President to take over from his boss in 2023.

Osinbajo thereafter visited the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo as well as the Ogun State delegates of the APC at the Presidential Lodge, Abeokuta.
