Rescuers retrieve body of Osibona, developer of collapsed Ikoyi building

Nearly 48 hours after, Search and Rescue Operatives have retrieved and identified the remains of Femi Osibona, developer of the collapsed 21-storey Ikoyi building from the heap of rubbles.

Osibona was pulled out from the rubble on Thursday night. Reinforcing pillars of the building on Gerrard road, Ikoyi, Lagos, gave way on Monday afternoon, causing the entire structure to crumble to ground zero in ruins.

Many people, including the developer, friend and workers were trapped in the rubbles, just as the Lagos State first responders helped with heavy equipment, dug through the debris to retrieve both the dead and survivors.

The Daily Crucible learnt that Femi Osibona's remains were discovered before 7pm and identified by officials of the Ministry of Physical Planning before it was evacuated in an ambulance.

Although no official announcement has been made to that effect but bystanders and artisans informed reporters on the development as the body bag was being moved to the ambulance.

Sources said that Osibona’s remains have been found and recovered.

No fewer than 36 persons are believed to have died in the incident.

Already, governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared a - three - day mourning in honour of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

While the mourning period lasts, all flags are to be flown at half-mast in public and private buildings in Lagos State and official engagements cancelled during the period, according to Gbenga Omotoso, the State's  Commissioner for Information & Strategy.

Omotoso quoted the Lagos State Government as commiserating, once again, with all those who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had visited the site thrice to encourage the rescuers and console relations of those who are believed to have been trapped in the 21-storey building.
