The immediate past Chairman Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ogun State, Chief Yemi Sanusi was on Saturday at the main bowl of MKO International Stadium, Abeokuta elected unopposed as the substantive Chairman of the ruling party.
The election which was held under the supervision of Hon Wale Ohu led Congress Committee from the national headquarters of the APC was attended by 1730 delegates chosen across the 20 local governments of the state.
All the 37 executives of the members of the party were elected unopposed with voice affirmation of the delegates present at the occasion.
Representatives of Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies were also around to observe the peaceful congress.
Dignitaries at the congress included the governor of the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, his Deputy, Engr Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Olakunle Oluomo, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talab among other cabinet members.
Other chieftains of the party at the Congress were the former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Deputy governors, Alhaja Salmot Badru and Prince Segun Adesegun, Sen Gbenga Obadara, Sen Gbenga Kaka, Chief Mrs Iyabode Apampa to mention but few.
The Chairman of the Congress Committee, Hon Wale Ohu declared that the only valid congress that would be recognised by the national leadership of the ruling party is the one held at the MKO International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta saying that any other congress elsewhere was nothing but a sham and null and void.
Hon Wale Ohu urged the newly elected leadership of the party to work towards strengthening the party and further mobilise for its victory come 2023.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Yemi Sanusi thanked the party for the confidence reposed him promising to work towards uniting the party and reposition it for greater victory in 2023.
Gov Dapo Abiodun in his remark at the congress described it as one marked by transparent procedure and true reflection of the wishes of the party members.
The governor has therefore urged the newly elected party executives to remain dedicated to duty and work for further progress of the party.
Meanwhile, some members of the party loyal to the immediate past governor of the state, Sen Ibikunle Amosun were also said to have had their congress at Ake palace ground electing a factional leadership for the party.
