A community leader and Chairman of Royal Initiative for Development of Sagamu Community (RIDSCo) Olootu Omoba Michael Oyedele has lauded Larfarge Group for being reliable partners in the development of Sagamu and making life enjoyable for all.
Olootu Omoba Michael Oyedele gave this commendation on Thursday during the commissioning of a bridge over Ogbe river popularly called 'Odo eran' along Sagamu High Court-International Market road donated by Larfarge Cement company.
Oyedele said that the previous culvert-like bridge on the road had collapsed due to increased developmental activities in the area with attendant increase in the volume of people and vehicles plying the road.
He said that the Iyaloja of the OGD International Market in the area, Chief Mrs Olasumbo Bamidele-Nelly had written RIDSCo pleading for assistance over the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge and that after wider consultation, Larfarge in collaboration with RIDSCo agreed to assist to put this challenge behind residents of the area as well as all the users of the roads.
Oyedele however explained that given the economic importance of the road, Gov Dapo Abiodun should please help in fixing this road that is less than five kilometers.
He said " this road is no doubt very important to the running of the economy in the state. It leads to an international market with several developing communities, schools and industries around the area.
"It also serves as by pass to Sagamu-Benin expressway such that when this highway is blocked, it remains escape route to travellers to the East, South South, even Southwest, we sincerely hope that the state government will also help us to fix this road''
Speaking during the commissioning, the Iyaloja of the OGD International Market, Chief Mrs Olasumbo Bamidele-Nelly thanked RIDSCo and Larfarge for heeding to the cries of the residents of the area and coming around to help when it mattered most.
Chief Bamidele-Nelly disclosed that it was really tedious and harrowing for the traders at the international market to get to the market with their goods since the previous bridge collapsed as they had to go through a longer and tortuous routes saying that the fixing of the bridge was deeply appreciated by every trader at the international market as well as all the residents in the adjoining communities.
She has equally called on the state government to help in rehabilitating the road saying that "the boost in the commercial activities and economic prosperity of many residents of Sagamu is tied to rehabilitation of this road. With this bridge done by RIDSCo and Larfarge, we are also pleading with our governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to help us with the reconstruction of this road''.
The Chairman of Processed Wood Producers and Marketers Association (PROWPMAN) Ogun State, Chief Adetola Dosumu also at the event, while lauding RIDSCo and Larfarge for helping with the new bridge called on Gov Abiodun to help in rehabilitating this road
Dosumu said "now that RIDSCo and Larfarge have helped in getting us a bridge on this very important road, I also plead with our hardworking governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to come to our aid on this road. It's a very busy road as you can see, it's the lifeline to the growing economy here. We appreciate what the governor has been doing and we sincerely hope that he will help us on this road too".
Other dignitaries at the event were Builder E Olusaanu Sokoya, Chairman, Project Monitoring and Implementation Committee of RIDSCo, Oba Samuel Oladele Dawodu, Onigbepa of Igbepa, Sagamu, Ewusi of Makun, Oba Timothy Akinsanya represented by Lisa Sunday Oduwaiye, Asiwaju S K Onafowokan represented by Engr Oye Oduguwa, Rotn Segun Onabolu, Engr Edward Alabi, Maintainance Manager, Larfarge among others.
