Gang member who rob churches arrested at Ilisan Remo

A suspected member of gang of robbers who specialised in breaking into churches in Ilisan Remo and its environs in Ikenne local government area of Ogun State, one Osas was on Friday morning arrested after breaking into Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Strong Tower Area Headquarters, Ilisan Remo.

Osas was said to have reportedly went to the house beside the church where a member of the church who keeps the key to the church lives telling her that the Pastor had sent him to do some wiring in the church.

Sensing some danger, the woman after releasing the key to the church to the alleged robbers was said to have put a call across to the presiding Pastor of the church who denied ever sending anyone to carry out wiring in the church.

Our Correspondent gathered that the Pastor was said to have told the woman to keep eyes on the intruder after which he came around to challenge the alleged robber and was subsequently arrested.

Speaking with our Correspondent, the presiding Pastor of the church, Oluwaseun Agbesanwa said that '' I just got a call this morning from one of our members who we use to keep the church's key with that someone said that I sent him to collect the key from her and that he wanted to help with wiring of the church.

"I instantly told her that I never sent anyone and that she should please help keep an eye on him while I joined them soon. On getting there, I met the guy who claimed to be Osas. He however started begging saying that he was not a thief and that I should do him well o whatever he meant with that. He had since been handed over to the police at Ilisan Remo and the legal officer of the church has also been contacted for prompt action".

Our Correspondent also gathered that other members of the gang who were in a car parked some metres away from the church were said to have reportedly bolted away having gotten wind of the arrest of one of them.

It would be recalled that churches in Ilisan Remo, Ikenne and its environs had in the recent past lost thousands of naira worth of properties such as generating set, public address system, fans, microphones, drum set among others to these rampaging thieves.
