One person was feared dead while two others were seriously injured in a gas explosion that occurred around Arigbabu roundabout, Folagbade Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun state on Monday morning.
Our Correspondent gathered that, the incident happened around 8 am along Folagbade road in Ijebu-Ode.
The explosion involved, a tricycle, three motorcycles and a Honda SUV.
According to an eye witness, the explosion was caused by gas cylinder belonging to one of the occupants of the tricycle.
The eye witnessed explained that, the rider of the tricycle which was conveying three occupants parked by the road side, when the owner of the cylinder discovered that gas was leaking from the cylinder.
He said, the tricycle was parked near a faulty car with a radiator problem.
He explained further that, the occupant, in an attempt to fix the leaking cylinder alighted from the tricycle and the explosion was triggered by the heat which emanated from the car whose bonnet was opened.
He disclosed that, the accident involved three people, adding that one of the victims was badly injured.
"The owner of the cylinder had just refilled it with gas and unknown to her, the cylinder was leaking.
"The rider of the tricycle parked by the road side for the woman to fix the leaking cylinder, but unfortunately, there was a car with radiator problem parked nearby.
"The heat generated by the car triggered explosion", he said.
According to him, the victims who suffered third degree burn were rushed to Ijebu-Ode general hospital, but the hospital refused to treat them and they were taken to an unknown hospital.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed the accident, disclosing that, the tricycle, three motorcycles and a car were burnt.
He added that, the occupants of the tricycle also suffered severe burnt injury and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Akinbiyi, however disclosed that, he could not ascertain if anyone died in the explosion.

ReplyDeleteMore than 10 people were affected in the incidence and also state hospital Ijebu ode attended to everyone that were brought to the hospital and we resuscitated them before we referred those one that we could not manage in our centre bcos they sustained btw 80-100% of burn.
As am talking to you,we still have two people on admission.
Many health workers were involved in the resucitation that day and as one of them and the person managing the people on admission,I felt embarrassed when you said general hospital Ijebu ode refuse to treat them.

Please make good findings before bringing news online because some people don't have the first hand information and only read from here and digest whatever they read online. Like earlier said well over 10 people were seen and they were all attended to, it came has as rude shock to read that they were rejected and seny to an unknown hospital,despite all hands were on deck that day, so when police personnel came to get informations about the incident in the hospital was it ghost they met? ReplyDeleteIts amazing how information in this country gets circulated to the general public without making sure it's authentic. I was among the health team that attended to the said victims and all hands were on deck when they presented to the hospital. We administered first aid and stabilized all the victims. Those with severe burns injury were referred to higher medical facilities and others with mild to moderate injuries were admitted to the hospital and are still receiving treatment as I write this comment. I think the writer of this news need to get their facts right and correct the defamation to the hospital and health workers as a whole. Thanks and God bless.
