June 12: Ijebu Youth Association shelves protest

The national leadership of Ijebu Youths Association (IYA) has shelved its planned protest on insecurity, bad governance and hunger slated for tomorrow, Saturday June 12.

The sociopolitical group had earlier said that rather than joining in the frills and thrills of Democracy Day celebration in the country slated for tomorrow, it would use the opportunity to draw the attention of the handlers of the country to issues of bad governance, insecurity, hunger, growing unemployment among other challenges bedevilling the country.

However, in a statement on Friday by the National President of the association, Comr Fayomi Wasiu Okikiola, the youth group said it has decided to suspend the protest.

Comr Fayomi Wasiu Okikiola said that "much as we would have loved to go ahead with the planned protest, we are however constrain to suspend this protest in the light of some other protests we heard some people are also organising for this same day".

"We would not want any group to highjack our patriotic intentions and turn it to something else neither do we want our noble agenda to be misconstrued. We therefore urge all our members to stay away from every form of unlawful gathering that could hurt the peace of the country".
