We paid N180m, gave 8 motorcycles to kidnappers before our children were freed -parents of Greenfield varsity students

Parents of the 14 students abducted from Greenfield University last month in Kaduna but freed on Saturday have said they paid the kidnappers ransom of N180m and gave them eight motorcycles.

Some of the parents who spoke in a video that has gone viral on social media revealed these to journalists.

“We paid N180m ransom to kidnappers and gave them 8 new motorcycles before our children were released. No government
helped us, and we did not see any policeman, ” some of them chorused in the video.

The students were reportedly released on Saturday afternoon at a location along the Kaduna- Abuja highway.

However, the kidnappers had earlier demanded  N100m ransom from parents to free the students while the parents of the concerned students had said they had raised N55m on their own.
The abductors also demanded 10 motorcycles.

Recall that the students were abducted 20th April this year after bandits broke into the premises of the institution, killed a member of staff and abducted no fewer than 22 undergraduates and three staff members.

Sadly, three of the students were found dead on the 23rd April and two of them were again found dead 25th April 2021 in a village close to the school.

One of the students had earlier been released early this month after ransom was paid by his parents.
