Three Chairmanship aspirants in Ikenne local government under the All Progressives Congress, Prince Elias Obadina, Comr.Ayomide Ogunmoye popularly called Tooto and Mr Abiodun Osibodu have rejected the selection of Alhaji Jamiu Asimi fondly called Ya Jamiu as the consensus Chairmanship candidate for the local government elections slated for Saturday, July 24.
The three Chairmanship aspirants in a chat with our Correspondent described the selection process as nothing but a sham, fraud and one that never represented the wishes of the party members in the local government.
Speaking with our Correspondent, Prince Elias Obadina, one of the Chairmanship aspirants from Irolu Remo Ward 10 alleged that the candidature of Alhaji Jamiu Asimi who is currently the party Chairman in the local government and a member of Bulk Purchasing Board in the state was nothing but imposition and this is said to run contrary to the directive of the party in the state.
Obadina said "the procedure is a fraud, it is nothing but daylight robbery that is not in tandem with the directive of the party. The party at stakeholders meeting held with the governor had directed that the party should try and adopt consensus candidate for the local government elections but where that did not work out the party should either go for direct or indirect primaries.
"Unfortunately, the leaders of our great party in the local government have hidden agenda, they have been meeting since Sunday just because they want to impose an unpopular candidate as Ya Jamiu on us.
"This is a man who has been the party Chairman for over eight years, he is a member of Bulk Purchasing Board in the state. How many people has he empowered since he had been in government? Where is his competence to govern the local government of the Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo? This is not what members of the ruling party in our local government want.
"It's against this background that I and these two other Chairmanship aspirants, that is, Comr Ayomide Ogunmoye and Mr Abiodun Osibodu have rejected this kangaroo and cheat call consensus because it is against the wishes of many party members in the local government. We therefore opt for direct primaries, if Ya Jamiu is that popular, let him meet us at the field.
"It's on that note that we reject in totality the so called consensus candidate and therefore with this press Interview urge Gov Dapo Abiodun to step in and ensure that this charade is not in any way allow to stand, he should please call the party leaders to order and a order a direct primaries where all the Chairmanship aspirants will participate, that's what can only make peace to reign in the party".
Comr Ayomide Ogunmoye in a chat with our Correspondent said that "I even staged a walk out on them, I mean the party leaders because I have seen the handwriting on the wall, everyone knew it was an hatchet job, Ya Jamiu couldn't have been the consensus candidate, any way, I have rejected this unpopular moves and I will pursue this to logical conclusion. The party should allow us to go by way of direct primaries, that is the popular demand of our party men and women in the local government".
Mr Abiodun Osibodu while venting his disapproval over the adoption of Alhaji Jamiu Asimi as the consensus Chairmanship candidate also added that it was a great injustice that would be challenged at both ends.
Osibodu described whole process as nothing but a game plan by some vested interest to foist an unpopular candidate on the local government urging for quick intervention of Gov Dapo Abiodun and party leaders in the state to salvage the situation.
He was reportedly said to have been begged to step down his ambition to represent the Ikenne state constituency at the House of Assembly during 2019 elections with a promise to be given the Chairmanship ticket of the local government when the time comes.
