Two people were confirmed dead on Monday while others sustained various degrees of injuries when a Sienna space bus said to be on top speed ran into a stationed Dangote truck around Toll Gate axis of Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway.
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Spokesperson, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi explained that the accident occurred at 11:15am and was caused by the driver of the Sienna who was on top speed, lost control and hit the stationed loaded truck.
He added that a male teenager and a woman who were in the Toyota Sienna marked MUS 264 XV died in the accident while one other person sustained injuries.
Akinbiyi said "according to eyewitness account, it was learnt that the driver of the commercial vehicle was heading towards the East from Lagos, when it lost control due to excessive speeding before colliding with a Dangote truck, which was parked off the road.
“Unfortunately, the driver of the Sienna commercial vehicle ran away after the accident, while two commuters, a teenager and an adult woman lost their lives .
“Coincidentally, the woman who dies, was said to be the one challenging the driver for speeding recklessly while the teenager who lost her life, had her biological father also in the vehicle".
He explained that the deceased were deposited at General Hospital mortuary, Ijebu Ode while the injured were taken to Rona Hospital, Ijebu Ode.
The TRACE Spokesman commiserated with the families of the deceased and also warned motorists against excessive speeding, reckless and dangerous driving.
