Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun over the weekend presented staff of office to the new Obelu of Esure Ijebu in Ijebu East local government area of the state, Oba Kasali Olalekan Samodu charging him to always maintain peace in his domain while also mobilising the support of his people towards the success of government's policies and programmes.
Gov Abiodun who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Afolabi Afuape disclosed that regular payment of taxes, rates and levies are civic responsibilities expected of good citizens, as they would further propel the government in the provision of more democratic benefits.
The governor said that though, every resident of the state irrespective of where they are in the state are entitled to enjoying dividends of democracy but this would only be possible, if they promptly pay all dues, which form part of the resources that government uses to ensure that necessary infrastructures are put in place, for adequate socio-economic development in every nook and crannies of the State.
He noted that some of the development efforts were evident across the state, enjoining the new monarch to bring his vision to bear by creating team spirit among his people in order to facilitate both physical and human development to their community.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman, Transition Committee of the local government, Hon. Bolanle Falujo, said development and growth of any society are tied to the charisma and ability of leaders to organise and empower his people, calling on the new traditional ruler to use his experience as a successful businessman to attract investors, thereby bringing meaningful development to the town.
In his goodwill message, His Royal Majesty, Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu land, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Adetona represented by Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Yinusa Adekoya, enjoined the new Oba to justify the opportunity given him by carrying along his subjects in decisions making especially on issues that affects them directly.
Oba Abdulsamad Kasali in his acceptance speech appreciated the government for the opportunity to serve his people and the State, assuring that his tenure would bring tremendous improvement in infrastructural development and provide adequate security of lives and property.
